Barcode Magazine released their “Best Albums of 2008” list recently, and The Flashbulb’s “Soundtrack to a Vacant Life” got the #1 pick. I couldn’t agree more, it is far and away the most interesting “electronic” music I’ve heard lately. It also really reminds me of my disappointment at his performance in Seattle in 2007. He didn’t really do any of his stuff that is in this style at that show, instead choosing to take the easy road with more pedestrian “dance” stuff. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but not what makes The Flashbulb special.
Anyway, back to the list… The tone of their mini-review was a little back-handed, which seems like poor form to me. Whatever, he got the nod, so it’s all good. I’ll have to check out the other items on here too. Surprisingly, I’m familiar with relatively few of them, but the ones I know are among my favorites. Always a good sign.
