So, Cowon makes iAudio DAPs. They are eral nice, supporting all the formats I like and they appear as USB HDD’s so you can just copy music to them. You can even upgrade the firmware just by dropping a file in the root of the drive. Oh, wait. That’s not true anymore. The firmware upgrades now require this lame-ass Windows-only executable. /me kills.
So I dug out this old copy of Windows 98se and installed it in a Virtualbox instance. Turns out the add-ons for Virtualbox don’t work for 98, which implies that the USB doesn’t work either. So I dug a little further and found a Win 2K pro Upgrade disk, but I apparently recorded the serial wrong before I trashed the case, so I had to visit the old Warez Scene serialz crackz bullshitz sitez and after a few tries found a key that worked. Hopefully this upgrade will finish soon. All so I could update the firmware on this thing and hopefully make it more reliable than it has been. Whee.
